We Covet Help for Haitians

I think we are all looking for ways we can help the Haitian people right now- it can be hard to tell what way is best. We want to help immediately and efficiently but also in ways that will have a long-term effect on their desperate situation.

SERRV International, Inc. has worked on behalf of the world’s artisans and farmers for over 60 years. They are long-time supporters of Fair Trade and Green practices as well as education and equal rights. For 30 years the group has had a partnership with Comite Artisanal Haitien (CAH) representing more than 170 individual Haitian artisans and groups. This includes artisans from Cite Soleil and other areas in and around Port-au-Prince, who create these beautiful works of art from recycled metal drums. 

Donating to the Haitian relief effort (see below) is absolutely important. Another way you can help is by buying the amazing items that have already been created by these artisans. This will allow SERRV to place new orders, giving new support to Haitian artisans and their families and helping them to rebuild their lives as quickly as possible.

We Covet Tangible Reminders That President Obama's Gonna Rock Some Foreign Policy

You know that it's a different era, baby, when the Russians go painting the American president on their traditional nesting dolls.

And yes, I understand that this isn't exactly the thick of the Cold War, and the Russians aren't, say, the Iraqis, but you do see where I'm going with this, right?  The point is that people everywhere, even in Russia, are celebrating this new spirit of optimism and change.  And what better way to capture this wave of excitement, this age of improved diplomatic relations, than by painting the image of our new president on five quintessentially Russian nesting dolls?  Even in those brightly colored folk costumes, he looks so cool and confident, doesn't he?

We Covet Being Tired (for a Good Cause).

I'm tired of _____!!!

How many words or phrases can you think of to fill in that blank? I picked "animal cruelty" for my personal favorite because it's rather timely, with one of Michael Vick's victims currently featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Even more so because HALF of the proceeds of the sale of this bracelet go to Best Friends, the country's largest sanctuary for homeless animals and a Vick dog rescuer.

But pick your own cause, people, because all of them are worthy and ALL of them donate half of their proceeds to the causes. These include AIDS, Autism, Cancer, and World Hunger. Or nominate your own for their consideration!
