Outside of my regular blogging gigs, I am a freelance writer for magazines. I conduct many of my interviews over the phone, but some of them are in person. I record all of my interviews and take notes so that I can create a piece that best conveys to my readers a sense of the person behind the words that I write. I also have a 9 to 5 which requires me to attend many meetings, during which I take notes of important details and action items. The Pulse Smartpen from Livescribe might just be the most perfect writing tool for someone like me. The pen and its companion paper records whatever you are listening to (meeting, speech, interview, etc.) and a camera in the pen tracks everything that you write. We Covet the Beater Blade

Technically, I'm not really coveting this anymore because I received it for Christmas. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't covet it. Most home cooks and bakers swear by the KitchenAid stand mixer for its durability and overall level of awesome. But it can be pretty tedious to stop the mixing every so often to scrape down the sides with a spatula. The Beater Blade snaps in the place of your regular paddle and the rubber sides do the scraping for you. Absolutely genius. If you purchase one, make sure you're getting the right model for your mixer!

Well, maybe not. But did you know that it's the 20th anniversary of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? And did you know that I gave these iconic mugs to my husband for Christmas this morning? Well, now you do. There are several opportunities to buy the moose/elk mugs that Clark and Eddie sipped eggnog from in that cult Christmas classic. But this one is the most affordable. Yes, I am fully aware that many of you think The Slanket (and Snuggie) are not covet-worthy. You are wrong! Wrong, I tell you! Look at this! It is black with skulls! And it is called "Walk the Slank" which I think is hilarious, if a little silly. Did you know it also comes in 13 solid colors and 3 other prints? That it's completely machine washable? And approved by the Better Business Bureau? Am I trying too hard?

HA! Stop motion animation with a dancing Fred Astaire!  Fantastic.

Any of my dog-owning peeps out there will agree that walking a dog in cold weather is not the most pleasant task. The most unpleasant factor, in my opinion, is that gloves really get in the way of the business of, well, cleaning up the dog's business. This causes some seriously cold, cracked, dry hands.

A little while ago I received an Oral-B TRIUMPH with SmartGuide electric toothbrush.  I was thrilled, because the spouse and I have been looking at getting something other than the traditional bristles on a stick.  I am diabetic and am at higher risk for gum disease and husband brushes so hard that he could take the enamel off his pearly whites.  I knew there were toothbrushes that would tell you when you are brushing too hard.  The Triumph tells you when you are going at your mouth with too much vigor as well as giving you the flexibility to set the toothbrush guide for “clean”, “sensitive”, “massage” (which feels lovely), and polish.  You know how you hear things on TV about that “just from the dentist clean”?  I do, I really do!  Who knew brushing your teeth could feel kinda’ nice both during and afterwards.  The smart guide display tells you how long to brush (I was brushing way too fast because I am lazy).  It also helps minimize flossing, which woo! Who likes flossing?  I still have to in some areas, but I was surprised at how the brush really kicks the grungies out of the floss zones. 

 

I know, super glowing review, too good to be true?  The only thing I would like is if the toothbrush would make a click sound when it is put in the charger.

We Covet Silence

I will admit to being a little misanthropic. I think it's really just that I have very little patience with most people and I often find myself thinking, "Will you please just shut the hell up?" Of course, I don't say that because it's just mean. But I might have found a solution. The Stop Talking cards allow the user to calmly inform someone that they've said quite enough, with only a hint of passive-aggressivenes.
