We Covet Talking the Walk

Concrete rings!  And earrings, pendants, cuff links and bracelets.  I found this site via one of my husband's coworkers who had a ring as a wedding band.   Nothing says I am kickass and married like concrete and stainless steel.  This jewelry is also made in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  Canadian eh!?  I love this stuff, is it elegant, modern and dude friendly.

Possibly Imaginary Car Of The Future We Covet

Okay, I'm just going to come out and say it: Ikea is making a car.

No, seriously.

Well, okay, MAYBE.

Alright, probably not.

 

But yes, Ikea recently announced -- by way of a Ikea France's site and a micro-site -- their intention to create a "car concept." Not much is yet known about the Leko, which is to be unveiled tomorrow (March 31st). In speaking with the New York Times, Pierre Deyries, Ikea France’s director of sustainable development, gave away only this:

“What I can confirm is that Ikea France has decided to support a new car system, which is:

– cheaper and more responsible than any car on the market,
– allows customers to spend less on fuel,
– is adapted to the products the customer wants to bring home,
– is based on cooperation with others.”

Which is vague enough, as the New York Times blogger Azadeh Ensha notes, to allow for Ikea to simply be announcing "some kind of carpooling service — possibly along the lines of France’s AutoLib program — to better help transport Ikea wares from the store." But gawd, we hope not. I want my cheap-yet-stylishly-functional Ikea car noooow! (So long as I don't have to put it together with one of those little bent metal screwdriver thingies, oh my gah.)

We Covet a Colorful Cute Lil' Bag for Spring

Spring is HERE. I don't care what the thermometer says! Let the shopping commence! That said, we all need to do a little saving and scrimping and bah humbugging this year, I suppose.

We Covet Book Bibs

If you're a parent, you've probably seen those SAMi books - you know, the brightly colored board books that feature very simple - simple to the point of obscurity - graphic illustrations of animals (faces, usually) or shapes or whatever and tweaked with some flip and/or fold feature that allows the reader to change the images in the book and create new shapes, new animal, new pictures. It's all a bit confusing, but it's very cool. They're the kind of children's book that I fully intend to keep in our library long after the kids have moved on to Harry Potter, simply because they're just so cool to look at.

ANYWAY. This one SAMi book? Is made entirely of bibs. Seriously. On the one hand, it's a thick tear-off pad of bibs emblazoned with bright SAMi character faces - which is very convenient for keeping in the car or diaper bag (it's about the size of a large notepad) - but on the other hand, it's a pretty cool-looking book (and one that a toddler could paw through with sticky fingers.) It's also perfect for art projects, if you don't have art smocks on hand, because the bibs are big enough for a preschooler and sufficiently cool and non-bib like that no-one will cry baby.

So, yeah: got babies or small kids and hate ugly plastic bibs AND pastel-colored board books? You kind of want this.

We Covet Pushing Our Weird Obsessions on Our Children

First off, I need to tell you something:  I have a bit of a crush on tornadoes.  That sounds wrong, because I don't, of course, love the devastation and heartache they leave behind, but Dr. Freud, if you're listening, I may have a problem, as I dream about tornadoes and write poems about tornadoes and sketch tornadoes on cocktail napkins.  Also, I have been in a tornado--which was scary and full of hail, let me tell you--and one time, right before I was born, a tornado ripped the roof off my neighbors' house.

Anyway, given my twistery obsession, you can imagine how much I am coveting this T-shirt, a whimsical, cow-devouring personification of a small (F2, maybe?) tornado.  So delighted am I, in fact, that I'm off to buy the shirt for my small tornado, so that next time he tears off on his path of destruction, he'll at least be able to do it in style.

We Covet Bunnies, And Their Towns

Easter is really underrepresented in the pop culture/television/musical entertainment arena, wouldn't you say? I mean, there's no Charlie Brown And The Great Easter Bunny, no Burl Ives-narrated stop-motion epic about how Rudolph saves Good Friday, no Grinch Who Stole Easter Baskets. Even St. Patrick's Day has Darby O'Gill And The Little People, which is a terrible, disturbing movie, but at least it's a feature length film, which is something that Easter hasn't got (and no, I'm not including The Passion Of The Christ, because, seriously. Would you really gather the kiddies around and sit down with a bowl of chocolate eggs and watch that flick Easter Eve night? I thought not.)

So I was relieved when Disney released a bunny-themed DVD based on one of their bunny-themed TV shows. All those Easter Sundays with nothing to watch but evangelical programming? DONE.

I was further relieved to find that it doesn't suck. Bunnytown isn't strictly Easter-oriented - it's about bunnies who, um, live in a town - but it's close enough for me. It's a series of episodes about these crazy little bunnies that live in this crazy little town and the bunnies are just weird enough (Pirate Bunny! Crazy Hippy Bunny!)  that they're not boring to your average cynical parent. When they dance, it's kind of twisted, but I love that stuff - hey, Seuss was twisted - and the girl loves it, which is the important thing here, really, so. Win-win. An Easter must-buy!
